2016 marks NAISDA Dance College’s 40th Anniversary and we are celebrating this incredible milestone with a series of special events throughout the year. The 2016 One Dreaming Infinite Futures program is:

International Tour: Jan–March 2016

A six-week performance workshop tour of the USA led by Artistic Director Emeritus and Founder of NAISDA Carole Y Johnson and three recent NAISDA graduates. The tour was an opportunity to reconnect with international partners and build on our international connections for future tours and opportunities to study abroad for NAISDA Graduates. Wirayi” NAISDA Mid-Year Show & Workshop Program: 29 June–1 July 2016

Presented by NAISDA at The Art House in Wyong, Wirayi showcases the creative work of our Developing Artists and casts a spotlight on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Culture as NAISDA celebrates NAIDOC week.

Directed by NAISDA Graduate and Cultural and Dance Coordinator Raymond D Blanco and harnessing the talent of the DAs, this is sure to be an amazing show for all to see.

Footprints From the Dust Workshop Program: 6-17 June 2016

This program, sponsored by the City of Sydney, is NAISDA’s way of saying thank you for all the support that the City of Sydney has given NAISDA throughout our history. The City has played a significant part in NAISDA’s development and survival.

This program will see NAISDA visit schools in the inner city area and present free workshops for students of Sydney, further spreading the importance of cultural connection and ongoing Songlines.

Circle of Cultures at Carriageworks: November-December 2016

NAISDA’s major celebrations Circle of Cultures, in partnership with Carriageworks Sydney, will take place at Carriageworks.

This season will transform Carriageworks across three spaces, showing the many sides of NAISDA.

  1. From Sand to Stage”: 16-24 November 2016

From Sand to Stage will feature three new contemporary works funded through Arts NSW. This season will be curated by NAISDA Head of Creative Studies Frances Rings who has directed the past two NAISDA Carriageworks seasons with spectacular results.

  1. Speaking Countries: 16-24 November 2016

Speaking Countries will turn the Carriageworks public space into a community dance ground filled with sand as we dance to acknowledge Cultural communities from around Australia and their contribution to creating what NAISDA, and indeed what Contemporary Indigenous dance, is today.

  1. Naya Wa Yugali (We Dance): 14 November-11 December 2016

An Exhibition weaving the Songlines of NAISDA through the eyes of artists, students and staff. This exhibition bedrock is made possible through a very generous donation from esteemed photographer Elaine Syron Kitchener, who has donated a substantial collection of photographs to NAISDA.

This exhibition will also feature a work by Vicki Van Hout, commissioned from Carriageworks and will be curated by Carriageworks and NAISDA.

This exhibition could not have been possible without the support of Carriageworks, The Ministry for the Arts Indigenous Languages and Arts projects, City of Sydney, Artistic Director Emeritus Carole Y Johnson, and all the artists who have contributed in creating this memory.

  1. The NAISDA Foundation: 21 November 2016

During Circle of Cultures the NAISDA Foundation will be holding its inaugural Auction to raise funds to support the Foundation’s goal of expanding the current premises of NAISDA that will enable the College to grow into an international institute of learning and sharing for Indigenous cultures from around the world.
