Certificate II Careers in Dance is a one year introductory and preparatory course. This course offers students Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural practices as well as the opportunity to acquire mainstream dance techniques and study skills that are pre-requisites for entering into higher levels of dance studies. The course includes: Studies in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Culture and Dance, Contemporary Dance, Ballet Technique, Jazz, and Tap and supporting studies such as Drama, Music, Performance and Production Studies, Life Skills for Dancers and Performing Arts communication. All modules are compulsory and students must successfully complete all modules to receive the award and continue to the next level.
The Certificate III Careers in Dance has been developed to build on and consolidate skills and knowledge introduced in Certificate II. It is a preparation or bridging course for Certificate IV and the Diploma in Careers in Dance. This course offers students Indigenous Australian cultural practices as well as the opportunity to acquire mainstream dance techniques and study skills that are pre-requisites for entering into higher levels of dance studies.The course includes: Studies in Indigenous Australian Culture and Dance, Contemporary Dance, Ballet Technique, Jazz and Tap, and supporting studies such as Drama, Music, Performance and Production Studies, Life Skills for Dancers and Performing Arts communication. All modules are compulsory and students must therefore successfully complete all modules to receive the award and continue to the next level
At Certificate IV level students will be expected to take responsibility for own outputs in relation to specified quality standards such as those relevant to the physical and cultural aspects of the curriculum.
The introduction of Contemporary Dance Repertoire, Mind and Body Care and Dance Industry Studies at the Certificate IV level of the Careers in Dance curriculum requires students to apply theoretical concepts within an expanded knowledge base. Participation in the Cultural Residency program, Performance and Productions and Dance Industry studies, specifically incorporates skills required to apply solutions to a defined range of unpredictable problems across-industry in performance and production.
Course participants will be required to identify, analyse and evaluate information from a variety of training sources that reflects the range of modules that make up this curriculum. Training sources and expertise include technical dance tutors, Indigenous and mainstream industry practitioners as well as Indigenous cultural mentors in a community and college setting.
All modules in this Certificate IV course are compulsory and students must successfully complete all modules to receive the award and progress to Diploma level curriculum.
This Diploma course offers students Indigenous Australian cultural practices as well as the opportunity to acquire mainstream dance techniques and study skills that are pre-requisites for entering into higher levels of dance studies. In the Diploma program students will analyse concepts and plan approaches to technical problems and production management requirements.
This curriculum provides the opportunity for students to experience dance practicum to familiarize them with the demands of professional performance as part of a dance company or Tertiary Dance Placement.
Diploma students are encouraged to take a leadership role in the College's performing ensemble as well as within the community environment. These students will take limited responsibility for the achievement of the group in the End of Year performance. The end of year performance is produced to enable students to showcase their experiences across a range of theoretical, practical and cultural applications. Participation in this process and Dance Industry studies enables students to transfer and apply theoretical concepts, technical and creative skills to a range of situations.
All modules in this Diploma are compulsory and students must successfully complete all modules to receive the award.
